Business Internet Keeps Dropping? Separate Wi-Fi, NBN and App Problems

Gather useful evidence about intermittent business connectivity without resetting equipment or guessing that a faster plan will fix it.

Describe what actually stops working

A laptop losing Wi-Fi, every device losing internet and one cloud application failing are different observations. Record the time, location, affected devices and which services still work. That helps your IT provider decide where to begin.

Do not factory-reset the router or repeatedly restart shared equipment. Those actions can interrupt staff, remove configuration or obscure useful evidence.

Compare a second device

If it is safe and practical, check whether another device on the same approved network has the same symptom. If only one device is affected, record that difference. If several are affected, note whether they use Wi-Fi or an approved wired connection.

A device working beside the router but failing in another room may suggest a coverage issue, but it is not a complete diagnosis. Building materials, interference, configuration and load can all require investigation.

Compare the service

If websites work but one application does not, report the application and exact error. Your provider can check its status and dependencies. Avoid assuming the NBN connection has failed simply because one sign-in or application is unavailable.

Where policy permits, a controlled test through a separate connection can provide another observation. Use approved devices and connectivity; do not route sensitive work through an unapproved personal hotspot.

Collect a short incident log

  • When the interruption starts and ends.
  • Affected people, devices and connection types.
  • Services that fail and services that remain available.
  • Any visible router or connection status, without changing settings.
  • Recent changes, such as a move, new equipment or a configuration update.

Know what a speed test can and cannot show

A speed test at one time does not explain every drop-out. Upload demand, instability, latency and local Wi-Fi can affect work differently. If your provider requests measurements, record the time and test conditions so the results can be compared.

Choose the remedy after the cause is understood

A faster plan may help capacity, but it will not automatically repair a faulty cable, weak Wi-Fi coverage or an application outage. Ask your provider to explain the evidence, proposed fix and how success will be checked.

For important workflows such as sales and calls, discuss fallback options and test the approved process before an outage.
