Answer the actual questions

Cyber insurance forms and policy terms vary. Use the current documents supplied by your broker or insurer rather than a generic online checklist. The IT provider can help establish technical facts; the broker or insurer should explain coverage and policy conditions.

Gather evidence before making declarations

• Account protection: which users and services have MFA, and what exceptions remain?
• Updates: how are supported systems maintained and failures followed up?
• Endpoint protection: what is deployed, and who responds to alerts?
• Backups: what is covered, where recovery points are kept and what has been tested?
• Access: who has administrative privileges and how changes are approved?
• Response: who will coordinate an incident and which contacts are available?

Describe the environment accurately

Avoid broad statements such as 'all devices are protected' when contractors, old equipment or a separate location have not been checked. Record the scope and explain exceptions. If a question is ambiguous, obtain clarification through the appropriate adviser rather than guessing.

Keep policy-specific actions accessible

Ask the broker or insurer which contacts, approvals and notification steps apply to your cover. Keep those instructions available during an email or identity outage. Do not assume every policy requires the same response panel or deadline.

If an application identifies a security gap, assign an owner and plan the remediation. Recheck the technical answer after the work is complete.
